Sovereignty of Chunxiao Oil & Gas Fields/Diaoyu-III
When both Beijing and Tokyo agreed to the joint development of oil/gas field in East China Sea on June 16, the announcement caused nationalists in both countries to become excited. On one hand, the radical Chinese nationalists believe that their government sold the sovereignty of Chunxiao oil field. On the other hand, the radical Japanese nationalists believe that the Chinese government gave away sovereignty of Chunxiao oil field. Subsequently, the right-wing Japanese politicians led by Yukio Edano pushed for “aerial inspection” over the Diaoyu/Senkaku Islands by the end of June. By July 2, accompanied by 1,000 people, a patrol boat “Haixun 31” from Zhejiang province began to patrol in Chunxiao oil/gas fields, demonstrating the Chinese sovereignty according to international law. By now, radical nationalists on both sides finally understood the real story of the 6.18 joint development in the East China Sea.
