Sun Yat-sen’s Japanese Wife

Many people know Dr. Sun Yat-sen had three wives: Lu Muzhen, Soong Ching-ling, and Chen Cuifen. However, recently the Japanese media reported that the daughter of fourth wife of Sun is alive. In 1898, Sun met Ootsuki Kaoru in Yokohama, and Sun made his proposal to her in 1901 when Sun was 36 years old, and Ootsuki was 14 years old. In May 1906, Ootsuki and Sun had a girl named Tomiko who was put up for adoption. But Sun returned to China the following year after his daughter was born. In 1970, Ostsuki Kaoru died at year 82. In 1955, Tomiko received an interview and stated “according to my mom Dr. Sun Yat-sen is my father.” Also, Ootsuki Kaoru left tapes which recorded her life. On 4 September 2009, former President Lee Teng-hui visited Japan and met the grandson of Dr. Sun Yat-sen, Miyamoto Toichi at the dinner in the following day.
