The Third United Front CCP-KMT-XI

On 26 July 2009, Ma Ying-jeou ran uncontested in the election for Kuomingtang (KMT) party chief. The Chinese communist party chief, Hu Jintao, congratulated Ma Ying-jeou. “I hope that our two parties can continue to promote peaceful development of cross-strait relations, deepen mutual trust, boost the well-being of compatriots on both sides and create a glorious resurrection of the Chinese race,” said Hu. Ma reply stated, “We should never stop efforts to consolidate peace in the Taiwan Strait, resume regional stability and sustain prosperity based on the principles of facing reality, building trust, shelving disputes and creating a win-win scenario (New York Times).” It is matter of time when not whether or not Hu Jintao is going to meet Ma Ying-jeou. This will be another step towards having the third united front CCP-KMT, making the Japanese right-wing nervous. On 12 October 2009, Ma Ying-jeou was inaugurated as the head of KMT, and the Chinese Communist Party called for the promotion of greater cross-Straits trust and understanding (People’s Daily).
